Daniel J. Frey (aka Toby) is a writer and producer based in the entertainment capital of the world—Los Angeles, California.

Toby began his creative journey as a freelance editorial illustrator, crafting artwork for magazines and books. After moving to Hollywood, he transitioned into film and television production design, where he brought his artistic vision to life across film, TV, commercials, and special events.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Toby earned his B.S. in Studio Art and Physics from Baldwin Wallace College and his B.F.A. in Drawing and Illustration from the Cleveland Institute of Art. He also helped found NOIS—the Northern Ohio Illustrators Society—a charitable organization supporting artists across the region.

Beyond his creative work, Toby is a committed advocate for social justice and civil rights. Through his Brain Blog, he shares sharp, thoughtful commentary on issues of equality and progress.

Toby is an active member of several national organizations, including the Democratic National Committee (DNC), NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), National Action Network (NAN), and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

He also maintains strong ties to the arts community through his involvement in the following organizations:
